These cotton bags are reinforced, with extra support so they last. They have bands of cotton around the entire bag, and stronger gussets than your average chain-store throwaway cotton bag. Because they’re 100% cotton they can be dyed to your corporate colours and screen-printed with your corporate logo. You can even try different coloured bags and different coloured logos as a marketing test. Of course, being cotton they’re machine-washable, unlike many plastic bags, and can be tumble-dried or line-dried.

And whilst an all-natural product made to last might be expected to cost more than a cheap plastic supermarket throw-away rival product, these bags are quite economical.

Marion will join the internationally-renowned India Flint and Nalda Searles to lead a 9-day tour to Bangalore, the silk centre of South India, via Singapore, with side visits to Mysore and highlight of workshops and tours in a rural women's textile co-operative also in Karnakata State. October 12-23, 2008

We'll spend three days with the poorest of the world's women in Mandya at the Vikasana Institute of Rural Development.

These women produce string and other items of packaging out of waste product, and along with other like-minded organisations, Beautiful Silks purchase these at fair-trade prices to allow the workers to earn living and sustainable wages.

In Mandya, we have the option of working on rural women development initiatives. You can take a tour of the area and join one or more of the Workshops (total cost of these, included in the tour price, is $400).

These include beading, or vegetative dyeing with India Flint, or string and vessel making with Nalda Searles. If you want to garden, there's an option to tour the organically certified gardens in the region and learn about the micro credit self help initiatives of this area. For those of meditative state, Yoga experiences are offered.

Our Singapore stopover on the India to India tour includes a tour of the Singapore Botanical Gardens led by India Flint . We'll stroll the gardens, enjoying their beauty, learning about the plants and their uses, plus the vegetative dye powers some of them possess from this extremely knowledgable woman.
