Can you franchise your business? Franchising your business allows you as a franchisor to sell to an independant franchisee the right to operate a business which looks like yours. It's what's distinctive about your business that makes people come back to it. Your business has an existing good will -- the capacity of the business to attract custom, because existing clientele are likely to keep on using the business and recommending it to others. Franchising allows you to sell part of that goodwill. Franchisees pay you money to use your ideas. They do not operate your business, they do not take a share in your business, they have no rights over your business at all, and they cannot change the look of it. At Elephant Concepts we have the skills and insight to see the essential value of your business and to write down in longhand that it is that makes your business so special that people will pay money to have something which looks like it. Franchising makes it appear that your business was part of a national chain of businesses, even though other people were putting up most of the capital. This assists you in gaining business within your local area as you appear to be even more successful than small operators. The national chain Godfreys’ started during the depression with one man buying up old vacuum cleaners; Jims mowing started with David Penman on a social security scheme known as NEIS, Ultra Tune was started by a group of motor mechanics, and several successful food chains have started out in one or two shops. Our most recent contribution to franchising systems are Happy High Herbs, Hock-a-car, Aalphabet Services and Sydney Cellular. An initial assessment of your business takes about 4 hours on site and 6 hours' analysis off site, plus a subsequent meeting with you of 2 hours. You'll need to fill out our comprehensive kit before the first meeting - this exercise might take you half a day. The kit includes a free draft f ranchise agreement and free draft Franchising Code Disclosure Statement. The assessment and kit can be arranged for $1999 including GST (plus any necessary travel costs if over 100 km from Melbourne). |
