Forensic what?

Forensics is about evidence. It means first finding, and then assembling, facts so that they form a logical chain that can be used in presentation to a court.

In financial terms this is simple: “Where did the money go?” In the context of a business, this may mean that

money has been stolen by an employee. This commonly happens to support drug and gambling habits;
money has been stolen by an partner or spouse from a family business and disguised as a legitimate business expense;
money has been taken out of a company by its directors with an intent to defraud creditors;
management has paid itself large salaries even though a company is doing poorly;
the company has simply been mismanaged.
